Rachna Banerjee

Rachna Banerjee (born Jhumjhum Banerjee on October 2, 1974, in Calcutta, West Bengal, India) is an Indian actress, entrepreneur, television presenter, and politician who currently serves as a Member of the Lok Sabha.

Known professionally by her stage name Rachana, she won the 1991 Miss Kolkata title and also competed in five other Indian beauty competitions including Miss Beautiful Smile and Miss India.

She has built an illustrious career in the film industry, appearing extensively in Bengali and Odia cinema while also making appearances in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films.

Her notable acting work includes films such as Neethone Vuntanu (2002), Goyenda Gogol (2013), and Atangko (2000). She began her professional career in 1994.

In her personal life, she was previously married to Siddhanta Mahapatra and has been married to Probal Basu since 2006; they have one child together. Her transition from television screens to politics marked a significant milestone in her life.

She entered politics by contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) from the Hooghly constituency in West Bengal.

She won the election decisively, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Locket Chatterjee by a margin of over 50,000 to 60,000 votes.

She has been serving as the Member of Parliament for Hooghly in the 18th Lok Sabha since June 2024, replacing Locket Chatterjee. During her campaign, she faced social media trolling but received support from residents as she campaigned across Chandernagore, Chinsurah, and Balagarh.
