Rimi Sen, born Subhamitra Sen (also spelled Shoumitra or Shubhomitra Sen) on September 21, 1981, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, is a former Indian actress and film producer who appeared in Hindi, Telugu, and Bengali cinema.

She adopted the professional name "Rimi Sen" as a career move to stand out from other actors named Sen working in Bollywood.

Rimi Sen completed her schooling from Bidya Bharati Girls' High School in 1998 and later graduated in Commerce from the University of Calcutta. From childhood, she trained in Odissi dance under the eminent Kolkata-based Odissi exponent Guru Aloka Kanungo and performed in Aloka Kanungo's dance troupe. She had nurtured the dream of becoming an actress since childhood.

Her first effective foray into filmmaking occurred when she auditioned for a Coca-Cola advertisement directed by Priyadarshan, where her co-actor was Bollywood icon Aamir Khan. Priyadarshan subsequently cast her in his 2003 comedy film "Hungama," which became a box office hit and established her in the Bollywood film industry.

In "Hungama," she played a small-town girl who comes to Mumbai in search of a job, alongside co-stars Akshaye Khanna, Aftab Shivdasani, and Paresh Rawal. For this debut, she was nominated at the Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut.

She made her debut as a lead actress in 2002 in the Telugu film "Nee Thodu Kavali" before her Hindi film debut.

Following "Hungama," Rimi Sen appeared in several successful films including "Baghban" (2003), where she played Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini's granddaughter in Ravi Chopra's family drama. The film was a hit and consolidated her position as a Hindi film actor.

Her notable film roles include "Dhoom" (2004), where she lost 8 kilos for her role as Sweety and earned the nickname "Bollywood's Lucky Mascot"; "Garam Masala" (2005); "Kyon Ki" (2005); "Phir Hera Pheri" (2006); and "Golmaal: Fun Unlimited" (2006). She also played a minor part in the big hit "Dhoom 2," released in November 2006.

Her later films included "Johnny Gaddaar" (2007) alongside newcomer Neil Nitin Mukesh, "Hattrick" (2007), "De Taali" (2008), "Sankat City" (2009), and "Shagird" (2011). She also appeared in "Thank You" (2011).

Beyond acting, Rimi Sen became a film producer, reality TV personality, and political figure, making her a multifacety public figure. She moved to Mumbai to further her film career after her initial success.
