Rohini Hattangadi

Rohini Hattangadi (born April 11, 1955, in Pune, Maharashtra, India) is a renowned Indian actress celebrated for her work in film, theatre, and television across multiple languages including Marathi, Hindi, Kannada, and Japanese.

She is originally named Rohini Oak and was raised in Pune before pursuing her acting career.

She graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD) in New Delhi, where she joined in 1971 and met her future husband, Jaidev Hattangadi, who was in the same batch.

The couple married in 1975, one year after her graduation, and later had a son named Assem Hattangadi, who also became a theater actor. Jaidev Hattangadi died on December 5, 2008, at age 60 after battling cancer.

Her film debut came in 1978 with the Marathi-Hindi film "Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastan". Hattangadi achieved international recognition for her portrayal of Kasturba Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi's wife) in Richard Attenborough's 1982 biographical film "Gandhi". This performance made her the only Indian actress to win the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

Throughout her illustrious career spanning nearly four decades, she has appeared in more than 80 feature films and 30 television series. Her notable film roles include performances in "Arth" (1982), "Saaransh" (1984), and "Agneepath" (1990).

She has received numerous accolades, including two Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress (1984 for "Arth" and 1991 for "Agneepath"), and a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film "Party". In 2004, she was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Indian theatre.

She began her career with Marathi stage performances before transitioning to cinema and television.
