Tanishaa Mukerji

Tanishaa Mukerji (born 3 March 1978) is an Indian film actress who has worked primarily in Hindi cinema, with appearances in Tamil, Telugu and Marathi films and in Indian television reality shows.

She is a member of the prominent Mukherjee–Samarth film family and is known for early- to mid-2000s film roles and later appearances on television.

Tanishaa Mukerji was born on 3 March 1978 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into the Mukherjee–Samarth film family; she is the daughter of filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and veteran actress Tanuja and the younger sister of actress Kajol.

Her extended family includes several film-industry figures across generations, and she was raised in an environment closely connected to Indian cinema.

She made her film debut in the Hindi slasher film Sssshhh... (2003), which marked her entry into Bollywood. She played leading and supporting roles through the 2000s, including appearances in films such as Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao (2004), Tango Charlie (2005) and the political crime drama Sarkar (2005), the latter of which brought wider attention through its ensemble cast.

She also worked in South Indian films, including roles in Tamil and Telugu-language projects such as Unnale Unnale (2007). Over the following years she continued to take on a mix of Hindi and regional film projects, and she has been credited with roles through the 2010s.

She expanded into television when she joined the reality show Bigg Boss 7 in 2013, where she was one of the final contestants and finished as first runner-up. Following her Bigg Boss appearance she participated in other television projects and served as a judge on at least one comedy-based show, increasing her visibility on Indian television.

Her public profile has often been discussed in relation to her famous family; she has spoken in interviews about her career choices and the challenges of forging an independent identity in an industry with established relatives.
