Raised in the town of Tiptur, Tumkur district, Achyuth Kumar was born into an academically inclined family, his father, Keshavamurthy, was a Sanskrit teacher at Tiptur Boys High School.

His early years were shaped by the literary and theatrical interests of his family. He attended Kalpatharu First Grade College, which was then affiliated with the University of Bangalore, and pursued a Bachelor of Commerce degree. However, he left the program two years in. His passion for acting led him to train in theatre at Ninasam in Heggodu, a renowned drama school in Karnataka. 

His acting journey began while he was still a college student, participating in Tiptur-based theatre groups such as Geleyarabalaga, Mungaru Hudugaru, and the Abhinaya Theatre Group, guided by theatre personality Nataraj Huliyar.

He later honed his craft at Ninasam and toured extensively with Ninasam’s travelling troupe, Thirugaata. Despite initial familial hesitation, his father preferred he pursue acting only part-time—Achyuth Kumar dedicated himself fully to the performing arts.
